Did Hallmark Cancel 'When Calls the Heart' After Lori Loughlin's Scandal? Here's What We Know

The network cut ties with the actress and now Hearties might be paying the price. ?

  • Lori Loughlin and her husband, designer Mossimo Giannulli were recently charged in a massive college admissions cheating scandal.
  • Authorities claim the couple spent $500,000 to recruit their daughters Isabella Rose and Olivia Jade to USC's crew team.
  • After Loughlin turned herself in and posted $1 million bail, Hallmark released a statement about her involvement in When Calls the Heart, Garage Sale Mysteries, and other projects.

It's been a wild week for Hearties: After Lori Loughlin was charged for her involvement in a massive college cheating scandal (a.k.a. "Operation Varsity Blues"), her relationship with Hallmark was put into question. The network quickly responded with the following statement: "We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations," the company said. "We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin, including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third-party production."

Considered one of the reigning queens of Hallmark (alongside Candace Cameron Bure and Lacey Chabert), fans appeared to be most concerned about Loughlin's role as Abigal Stanton on When Calls the Heart, the network’s highest-rated original series. When the first statement was released, many fans understandably panicked that the show was gone for good. Basically, every Instagram comment looked something like this: "This is my favorite show! Please don't take it off the air!" Luckily, Hallmark isn't here to break hearts or ruin Sunday nights forever, which is why they they released another statement to reassure fans that "Hope Valley has many more stories left to share."

Two days later, the producers gave another update on the show's Instagram page. Their sweet message can be summed up with this line: "Let us reassure you, When Calls the Heart has always been bigger than the sum of its parts, and it HAS NOT BEEN CANCELED." Producer Brian Bird confirmed that the show is on a "creative hiatus" and will "return to your TV screens as soon as we can bring episodes to you." Keyword: soon.

So, what will happen to When Calls the Heart? That's TBD. The upcoming episodes in season 6, which were scheduled to begin airing Sunday, March 17, will no longer air. All other Sunday programming, however, will stick to its normal schedule.

To prove that they're really taking things seriously, the network even removed Loughlin from all of When Call the Heart's promotional images. Most noticeably, they removed the actress from the cover image on the show's Facebook page.

So, take a good look at Hope Valley sans Abigail Stanton. Welp, it looks like there's about to be a new mayor in town. But actually.

GoodHousekeeping.com reached out to Hallmark for comment on when When Calls the Heart will air new episodes. So far, the network has not given a set date.
